Tailor-Made Holidays

Back to Blog

Cuba is the Caribbean's largest island and one of its most captivating. From the faded grandeur of Havana's colonial streets to the lush valleys of Viñales and the powder-soft sands of Cayo Santa María, every corner tells a different story. Classic cars cruise past cutting-edge art galleries; centuries of history sit alongside a vibrant, ever-evolving culture. A luxury Cuba holiday goes beyond the must-see sights - staying in boutique hotels and private casas, exploring with expert local guides, and enjoying experiences that most visitors simply never reach.

Ways to Travel Cuba

There are two approaches to a luxury Cuba holiday, and the right one depends on how you like to travel. A small group journey gives you expert guides, exclusive access, and the warmth of shared experience. A private tailor-made itinerary gives you complete flexibility and a holiday designed entirely around you.

Small Group Journey: 9 Days, 8 Nights

Cuba comes alive through its people, and your local guide is the key to unlocking its spirit. More than a tour leader, they are a storyteller and cultural insider who connects you with farmers in Viñales, musicians in Trinidad, and the revolutionary history of Havana. Groups are no more than 12 like-minded companions, staying in a mix of premium hotels and outstanding guesthouses.

Havana: 3 Nights

Classic vintage cars in Havana Cuba

Stay at a premium property such as the Grand Muthu Havana - rooftop views, a pool to unwind after a day exploring. Begin with a welcome dinner, then see the city in style: a vintage car tour along the Malecón and Revolution Square, followed by a guided walk through Old Havana's plazas and cathedral quarter. A final evening back in the capital as your journey draws to a close.

Viñales: 2 Nights

Settle into a premium casa particular - Cuban hosts who combine warm hospitality with genuine comfort. Explore the valley on foot, learning about the region's famed tobacco farms before a hands-on salsa lesson. Dine at an eco-farm perched above the valley with sweeping views as the sun sets.

Cienfuegos: 1 Night

Overnight in a charming local hotel in the historic heart of this pretty coastal town. Take a sunset stroll along the waterfront and visit the Moorish-inspired Palacio de Valle.

Trinidad: 2 Nights

Cobbled streets of Trinidad Cuba

Stay in a premium guesthouse close to the cobbled streets and pastel houses of Trinidad. A guided orientation, time at Playa Ancón if you wish, and a festive dinner at a local farmhouse with live music. On the return to Havana, pause at Valle de los Ingenios and visit the Che Guevara mausoleum in Santa Clara.

This is one of the small group itineraries I book in Cuba. Other group journeys exist with different routes, hotel categories and group sizes. I match you to the right one for how you like to travel.

Private Tailor-Made Holiday: 12 Nights

This itinerary incorporates all of Cuba's essentials in one seamless journey - Havana's energy, the pastoral beauty of Viñales, colonial Trinidad, and barefoot luxury on Cayo Santa María.

Havana: 4 Nights

Colourful colonial architecture in Havana Cuba

Check into the charming Hotel Florida in the heart of Habana Vieja. Begin with a daiquiri before venturing out to discover the city's rhythm - a guided walking tour, a classic car ride past Revolution Square and the Malecón, and an evening at Tropicana, Cuba's legendary open-air cabaret, alive with music and dazzling choreography.

Viñales: 2 Nights

La Ermita, with views across the dramatic mogotes and patchwork of tobacco and coffee plantations. Explore the valley on foot, horseback, or bike, meeting local farmers who still use traditional methods. Evenings by the pool watching the sun set over this serene corner of Cuba.

Trinidad: 3 Nights

Iberostar Grand Hotel Trinidad, a colonial-style boutique property close to the action. Guided walk, salsa lesson with a local teacher, outdoor dancing under the stars at Casa de la Música. Day trips to the Escambray Mountains or the beaches of Peninsula de Ancón.

Cayo Santa María: 3 Nights

Cayo Santa Maria beach resort Cuba

End your holiday in barefoot luxury at the Royalton, an all-inclusive of fine dining, cocktails, a sleek spa, and days spent drifting between white-sand beach and turquoise Caribbean sea. The perfect finale.

This is an example of how a 12-night private trip can flow. Every private Cuba holiday is built from scratch around you. The nights in each region, the hotel category, the experiences and the pace are all chosen for you, not from a fixed menu, whether you are travelling as a couple, a family or a group of friends.

Getting to Cuba from the UK

Direct flights from the UK to Cuba are limited but available. London Heathrow to Havana on Virgin Atlantic operates seasonally with a flight time around 10 hours. The most reliable year-round option for British travellers is a one-stop routing via Madrid with Iberia (around 14 hours total transit time) or via Paris with Air France.

One important point: the US embargo means you cannot connect via US hubs as a tourist. American Airlines, Delta and United cannot transport UK travellers onward to Cuba unless you hold specific licensed status. This catches some travellers out when they spot a cheap fare via Miami or Atlanta.

From Manchester or other UK regional airports, one-stop routings via Madrid or Amsterdam are usually the cleanest. I book the routing that gets you to Havana with the smoothest transit window for your first day, factoring in jet lag and the schedule of your local guide pickup. Most clients add a relaxed first morning at the hotel rather than pushing straight into the city tour after a long flight.

How I Help

Choosing between Cuba's captivating destinations can feel overwhelming. I take the time to understand how you like to travel, the level of comfort you want, and the kind of experiences that make a holiday feel truly special. With trusted partners across Cuba I can tailor every detail, from boutique hotels and guided experiences to flights and transfers.

My service is free to you. I am paid commission by the suppliers I book through, which means the holiday costs you the same as booking direct, often less because I can access trade rates and added-value extras you would not find online.

Prices and Planning

A luxury Cuba holiday from the UK typically lands in the following ranges, all-in for two people:

  • Small group journey (9 days, premium hotels and casas, expert local guide): £3,800 to £5,200 per person all-in, including flights from the UK, internal transfers, accommodation, breakfasts, three included dinners, and all guided excursions.
  • Private tailor-made (12 nights) combining Havana, Viñales, Trinidad and Cayo Santa María: £4,500 to £7,500 per person depending on hotel category and whether you include the all-inclusive nights at the beach.
  • High-end private trip with boutique-only stays and signature experiences (private cigar farm tour, classical concert at the home of a Cuban musician, private cocktail-making class with a Havana bartender): £7,500 to £12,000 per person.

What drives the price: time of year is the biggest factor (peak December to March carries a 25 percent premium), choice of internal flights versus chauffeured road transfers, whether you finish at an all-inclusive beach resort, and how much truly private versus shared content you build in.

When to book: 6 to 9 months ahead for shoulder season, 9 to 12 months for Easter, Christmas and February half-term. The Cuban Tourist Card (visa), legally-required travel insurance, and arrival airport transfer are all arranged as part of the booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a visa to travel to Cuba?

Yes. UK travellers need a Cuba Tourist Card (sometimes called a visa) to enter the country. I arrange this for you as part of your booking, so there is no need to worry about paperwork - it is all taken care of before you fly.

When is the best time to visit Cuba?

Cuba enjoys warm weather year-round, but the most pleasant months are November to April when the climate is dry and sunny. May and early June are also lovely - quieter and often better value.

Are there direct flights from the UK to Cuba?

Yes. Several airlines including Virgin Atlantic offer direct flights from London to Havana. I will include the most convenient route and schedule when planning your holiday, along with private transfers on arrival.

Will my bank cards work in Cuba?

Cuba is largely a cash-based economy. Some UK-issued Visa and Mastercard debit cards work, but it is best to bring cash - euros are preferred. I will guide you through the best approach before you travel.

Is Cuba safe for British visitors?

Yes. Cuba is considered one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean, and petty crime is rare in the areas most travellers visit. I will share trusted local tips before you go.

Can I use the internet or mobile data in Cuba?

Wi-Fi is improving but still not as reliable as in Europe. Most hotels now offer internet access, though speeds vary. Many visitors treat it as a chance to properly switch off.

Do I need travel insurance for Cuba?

Yes - and it is a legal requirement for entry. You may be asked to show proof of insurance on arrival at Havana Airport. I will make sure you have appropriate cover before you travel.

What vaccinations do I need for Cuba?

No specific vaccinations are required for entry from the UK, though it is wise to ensure your routine travel immunisations - tetanus, hepatitis A - are up to date. I will confirm the latest guidance when we plan your trip.

How much does a luxury Cuba holiday cost from the UK?

For two people, a luxury Cuba holiday from the UK lands at £7,500 to £24,000 all-in. A small group journey runs £3,800 to £5,200 per person. A private tailor-made trip is £4,500 to £7,500 per person. A high-end private trip with boutique-only stays and signature experiences (private cigar farm tours, classical concerts at home) reaches £7,500 to £12,000 per person. Peak season December to March carries about a 25 percent premium.

Can I combine Cuba with another destination?

Yes, and many clients do. Cuba pairs naturally with a Caribbean beach finish elsewhere (Mexico's Riviera Maya, the Dominican Republic) or with a Caribbean cruise that starts or ends in nearby ports. Cuba works particularly well as the cultural and historical half of a longer trip, with a relaxing finish at an all-inclusive resort. I can build the whole itinerary as one seamless booking.
